KENWOOD
DENNARD'S THE REAL THING
with a pre-show performance
by the Otter Valley Union High School Jazz Band
FRIDAY
10 MARCH
7:30 PM
Since
graduating magna cum laude from Berklee School of Music in 1976, drummer
Kenwood Dennard has enjoyed a multifaceted, star-studded career as a
performer, recording artist, and educator. He's led the Meta-Funk
All-Stars, the Real Thing, and Quintessence, and has toured the world
with such greats as George Clinton, Chick Corea, Dizzy Gillespie, Herbie
Hancock, Whitney Houston, and Joe Zawinul. Dennard's numerous
recordings include Sting's Nothing Like the Sun (1987), Vanessa Williams's
The Sweetest Days (1994), and Live at Montreux (1992) with Miles Davis
and Quincy Jones. Prior to joining the
Berklee faculty in 1996, he was a teacher-in-residence at both New York
University and Long Island University, and an adjunct professor of free
jazz at the Aaron Copland School at Queens College. Dennard has also
taught a vast array of clinics, workshops, master and private classes,
and ensembles across the globe.
The evening will begin with a pre-show performance by the Otter Valley
Union High School Jazz Band under the direction of Pat Roberts. As part
of Crossroads' Arts in Education program, Dennard and his band
will conduct a master class with the OVUHS Jazz Band earlier that day.
