CROSSROADS & ARTS IN EDUCATION
For over 30 years, Crossroads has helped bring more arts to area schools. Our staff works closely with local teachers, principals, administrators and PTO's to schedule performances and events, which not only enrich and entertain, but also reflect the curriculum of Vermont's Framework of Standards For Education.
Crossroads' Arts in Education offers a variety of performances, immersion workshops, field trips and mentoring opportunities to all students in the Rutland Region. You can learn to read tarot on tarot authentique.com. In addition to supplementing and enhancing the curricula, our programs present students of all ages with the opportunity to experience the exciting world of the arts!

BREAK! The Urban Funk Spectacular

The Urban Funk Spectacular traces the history of Hip Hop Dancing over the last thirty years. BREAK! is a high energy tribute to this creatively-charged American art form. Howard Lyons, Native American Assembly Presenter has visited over 1600 schools, hundreds of universities and historical organizations including the Smithsonian and the Lincoln. Lyons, a multi-award-winning singer, songwriter and composer, is a three time NAMMY Nominee and was a 2004 Nominee for the N.H. Governors Award for Excellence in Arts and Education. Lyons uses music, stories, artifacts and authentic Iroquois language to create a hands-on, interactive performance that teaches intercultural sensitivity, environmental awareness, and respect for the body, mind and spirit. A great way to celebrate National American Indian Heritage Month!

Combining history, literacy and art, founder Sarah Frechette creates a breathtaking puppet performance inspired by true stories throughout history. Tales of the Underground Railroad, an Irish Memory Quilt and other stories unfold in Under the Night Sky. Also, invite Puppetkabob to your school for an after-school puppetry workshop! Choose from Burlap Masks, Circus Shadow Puppets, Fairytale Hand Puppets, or Where the Wild Things Are Monster Rod Puppets. Full day or week-long residencies are also available upon arrangement.

For the past 23 years, the Killington Music Festival has attracted world renowned classical musicians from prestigious conservatories to perform in the Music in the Mountains Series and to teach gifted local youth. Master classes are available, as well as "informance" concerts, during which the musicians talk about their music and take questions from students.

The Guild Players Touring Company presents the story of Lincoln's assassination in the original play Blood on the Moon. Atlantic Coast Theatre for Youth presents the classic children's tale Rumpelstiltskin. Using the elaborate masks and comical characters of Commedia Del'Arte (Italian Renaissance Theatre), this classic children's tale becomes an interactive performance. Also, give students the chance to discover the world of theatre with Tools of the Actor or Playwriting workshops.

Meet renowned author/ illustrator Phoebe Stone! Stone has received much critical acclaim for her work as an author and illustrator of books for children and young adults. Through drawing, dramatic reading, writing exercises and examples of her original work, Phoebe Stone offers vibrant, hands-on programs, giving students the opportunity to learn about the process and evolution of story and/or storybook illustration. What a great dynamic to add to a Jr. or Sr. High School English Literature course!
